We wish our 5 ambassadors well as they represent us in Cambodia this week. We will farewell them on Thursday morning.
Can each remaining child please bring in a plastic bottle - the larger the better, for art on Thursday.
Swimming will start this Tuesday, and it is absolutely fine if your child arrives in their swim clothes. Just don't forget the change of clothes.
The children need to wear shoes to swimming so if your child has them feel free to send in Flip Flops/Jandals(NZ)/ slippers / thongs (Aussies) (this is the most diverse word I've ever come across).
Note: School policy is children are expected to swim if they are well enough to come to school. Please email Samantha Mitchell if your child is not swimming for good reason. Samantha Mitchell <sml@gapps.uwcsea.edu.sg>
As expected, at the start of last week over half the class told me that they could not read o'clock or half past on the clock. So we set off to learn. By the end of the week everyone could do this.
Some were even interchanging quarter past and 15 minutes past . Some very eager learners are now telling the time in 5 minute intervals.
Two or three are already adding and taking away time. eg I need to be at school in 10 minutes. What time will that be ?
You'll notice some hand made clocks came home on Thursday. Have fun with these and some more learning might continue at home.
This is what Authors look like in 1MLN - the atmosphere is electric. Ask your child to tell you what they are most proud of about their writing.
Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. I was so impressed with the classes ability to comprehend the things that they could genuinely do to make a difference in the lives of people around them. There was no "solving world peace" or "magically cleaning water". 1MLN thought about neighbours, K1 and K2 kids on their school bus or in the playground, helpers' families and friends.
After watching the KID PRESIDENT (video below) and finding out all abut Mary Margaret who created Kids Are Heroes http://www.kidsareheroes.org/ we committed to being a hero in 2 different ways. Ask your child what 2 things they committed to doing as a hero.
Kid President video: You might like to watch this with your child.

Ask your child about the 1LJE Book Book Tuk Tuk idea.
You've probably heard that Jessie the Bear has stopped off on her travels around the world. Janani even took her to Malaysia last weekend to a concert and this weekend she is in Sentosa with Camille. Unfortunately she can't go to Cambodia as she needs to return to China. Is anyone heading to Shenzhen and could take her back next week or the following week, by any stroke of luck ? (China post makes me nervous!)
