Work share reminder: Our first 1MLN work share: 12th November 8.20-9am (note that not all G1 classes are on the same day). We'll have stations around the room and you and your child will explore the Amazing Human Machine together.  (If for some reason you cant make it your child will still have a lovely time exploring with their friends' families). Feel free to stay and join us for Library time at 9am.





The week that was:

The week began with Alex and Camille representing our class in Assembly. Ask your child why we had a special SERVICE  assembly on Monday.


























We all wish you a very Happy Diwali.  Arhanth taught us all about Diwali. He drew the story across a number of pages and showed these on the screen. Then using gold and silver paint and traditional block patterns we each created a card for someone special.
Arhanth did such a good job that he was invited to LJE to repeat his Kids Up Front with them.

Ask your child to tell you the story of Diwali.

Gosh the Gingerbread man has been travelling far and wide. This week we even received a postcard from Guernsey. The postcard picture made us all laugh.  He sent a Diwali card from India which arrived with about 20 stamps on it.

We've learnt a great deal about google maps, calendars and stamps from the Gingerbread man.  Next week I'm going to hunt for him in Italy !
If anyone sees the Gingerbread man please thank him from us for sending so many cards.

Updating the NOVEMBER CALENDAR.
Ask your child what's on this month.

In the coming week your child will bring home some writing to enjoy with you.
Ask your child about our visit to Grade 2  to share our published stories.
Ask your child what goals they have set for their next story.
Ask your child what they are most proud of in their writing.

The Forest Adventure confirmed the resilience of your children. They all managed to overcome their nerves to complete the ropes course. Not only that, those who were not nervous showed real empathy by encouraging their classmates. Mr Wilcox's assembly a few weeks ago paid off as I heard someone calling, "Don't forget that there is more in you than you think".   The staff at Forest Adventure commented on the, "wise words from encouraging 7 year olds"

POP UP poetry was a huge success. Poems have appeared in lunchboxes, under pillows , on breakfasts tables and in pockets. LONG MAY IT LAST.

 On Thursday my skype started ringing and "Edward Lear " popped up and started reading THE OWL AND THE PUSSYCAT. 

The children guessed who was reading , so Gunjali revealed herself !

Thanks "Edward Lear" for causing such excitement in the classroom !

And in maths we have been reinforcing Number Strategies, as well as measuring.

Ask your child what might go wrong if we didn't have STANDARD units of measure, such as metres and centimetres.

If you want someone else to make something 6 handspans long, what might go wrong ?

(We've worked really hard to understand that centimetres are the same all around the world, handspans are not !)
