4th Feb 9am You are all invited to our ARTS festival in the Auditorium.


Please keep the shoe boxes coming in, so we are ready to make our Chinese New Year gifts for our elderly friends at Happy Lodge.

Please let me know as soon as you know if you are leaving early or coming back late from Chinese New Year Holiday.

The week that was...

Have you been focusing on USING A STORYTELLING VOICE  when reading at home ? (See the note in the Reading Log if you don't recognise this).
Ask your child how they have been using a story telling voice through READERS THEATRE.
Hopefully you are helping them to record their reading  and listen back to this reflecting and setting goals for improvement.

                    

We have a new look classroom which suits our Creativity Unit. Thanks to all who helped me to build furniture, and donated things for our room.  The children are enjoying the space , as well as their input in to the design.
Ask your child what they enjoyed most about our new room. They all had a chance to explore it thoroughly for hidden treasures on Thursday.

Olly inspired the class with some coding which he did at home. Children love coding and it is good for them. We have 2 programmes at school. Daisy the Dinosaur and Hopscotch. You might like to explore these at home. Please share other good quality coding apps with me.

Swimming has started and I took the opportunity to leave my desk and join in. The pool is a much better office !
Ask your child which skills they gained this week. Sam and Zai differentiate so every child has their own goals.
At the end of the lessons the children get to play a game which brings happiness as well as confidence in the water.
Please help your child to remember their swim suits on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Another KIDS UP FRONT inspired us this week. Kaito and his mother showed us TAIKO Japanese Drumming. Both Kaito and Megan perform in front of audiences, so the standard was very high.
Ask your child what they saw and what they got to do in this KIDS UP FRONT.

We've been learning about a number of artists. We are figuring out all the areas in life in which we can be creative. By looking at a piece of art we are then inspired to create something ourselves.  
Ask your child which artist inspired this art.
Ask your child about the technique they used to get this result.

 Ask your child to describe a shape and you have to figure out what it is. Basic words we use are corners, same/different, sides, edges, 2D, 3D.    However, you might find your child has picked up words such as PARALLEL and IRREGULAR and REGULAR to describe shapes.

Ask your child who inspired their ART on Thursday. (One school teacher and one artist)
Ask them what they know about the artist and why his art links to our Maths GEOMETRY UNIT.
