Week 6

Well that was an unexpectedly short week !
It's been quiet in the classroom today... our class toys were a little lonely...

Is anyone willing to make some play dough for the maths class to use next week in maths ? Any colour would be fine.  Let me know if you are happy to contribute.

Thanks to the parents who have offered to help with the Community Challenge on Friday. We need at least 1 more parent helper please for this to go ahead. Sign up at this link

We would love a few shoe boxes in the classroom. If you have one would you mind sending it in ?
Thanks

The class have been learning about the writing process. The hardest thing to understand is that drafts don't have to look beautiful. When G2 came to visit they showed us their writing process.
We  also looked at some drafts from Dr Seuss.
Ask your child how you know that this is a draft.

Ask your child how they grew as a writer when G2 came to visit us.

Understanding place value is such an important part of getting to grips with the logic of number. eg Adding 10 to a number does not require counting ahead 10 places, it requires adding 1 ten to the Tens place.
Some people can now read numbers up to 999, and some can even read numbers in the 1000s.
Ask your child what is happening in the photo below.
Ask your child why we use sticks , straws and rubber bands to understand place value in maths.
Here's a simple game if interested

Thursday was an important day for some of the people in our community. Miss Idah came and spoke to us about what she would be doing on Thursday and why. Ask your child what Miss Idah's family would be doing on Thursday.

Thanks Sami is bringing in a lily with closed buds. We have all enjoyed watching it open up. Curiosity is so important and provocations such as this lily are always welcome in 1MLN.
