UN week

Reminder: No school for children on Wednesday due to parent conferences. However , don't forget the evening social event " Carols by Candlelight" it's a really lovely evening in the plaza and the children would enjoy playing together.

I'm so thrilled that you all enjoyed UN day and helping make the Food Festival so fun. Jane Shearer jrs@gapps.uwcsea.edu.sg, our class music teacher has loved teaching 1MLN, and they love her, too. This was evident in the UN performance.

The Sneaky Swim day has arrived !!!  The class worked VERY HARD to earn 100 sneaky swim points (all in the name of place value).
On Monday, please send your child to school either WITH their swim suit, or in their swim suit and with school clothes packed. I've said they can bring ONE NAMED water toy if they wish.

Next Thursday we have a G 1 Disco. Children may wear home clothes on this day.

Congratulations to Ella for playing confidently in front of an audience at NOON TUNES today.
Sofi started a great conversation about Solar Power by bringing in SPEEDY , a solar panel car which she made. She taught the class the word solar and when we were outside testing Speedy we spotted solar panels on the roof of the school. We wondered what fun playground equipment we could design using solar power to drive it.  Perhaps some people might like to bring their designs in for Monday morning sharing.

This week in MINDFUL training we talked about having a mindful heart.
Ask your child to teach you how to breathe, anchor your thoughts and use your mindful heart.
Every week Mr Wilcox asks 1MLN who they have passed their knowledge to , and how they responded. Someone in your family might be mentioned in MINDFUL training time !

On Tuesday Finbar held his Kids Up Front. Finbar read a poem with confidence. We heard the well known poem 'T'was the Night Before Christmas'. You'll find this poem is in our weekend Poetry Folder. Ask your child if you can read this together.
Finbar then taught everyone how to make Santa out of fruit. Then we made angels as well as decorating the Christmas tree.
Ask your child what they now know about Christmas celebrations.

Ask your child why they are reading on to the iPAD in class. Can they share their reading goals with you ?

The highlight of the week has been UN day. Ask your child which celebration they researched.
Ask your child which foods they enjoyed at the festival.
Ask your child how they felt up on stage in front of such a huge audience.

A time lapse of everyone arriving at school in UN DAY.
Our lovely G4 buddies
The children looked amazing ... Can you figure out the categories for each photo?

Another highlight was our trip to Happy Lodge. Ask your child how they might transfer this feeling of giving and helping make someone happy, to your family life.
